Dear Students of Tourism and Management
It was good to see so many of you for the meeting today at Goldhawk. On behalf of the school, there are several points which we would like to make about the issues raised in Tuesday’s meeting.
Regarding the lack of class until August 26th
a) Tourism
Firstly, we want to say that it is worth waiting to get the right person. It is unfortunate that our new teacher had a one month notice period on her job, and that Jeff’s new job was not confirmed for certain for some time, but we know that Nam will be a great course leader, and that overall, despite any short term issues, it is better to provide you with a quality teacher than to fill the gap immediately with someone average. We appreciate that for some students this causes inconvenience, but it is unfortunately inevitable when we lose someone as key to the course as Jeff that there will be a period of restructuring.
b) ABE
We will continue to run the ABE course from August 11th in Goldhawk Road in the following way;
-
Selva will continue to teach the same timetable as previously.
-
Vee will teach the same classes as he did in the afternoon in the previous term, i.e. he will not run his morning class.
-
This will continue until the classes are moved to Holborn at a later point.
The change to Holborn
The new building in Holborn is large, and will offer you the same facilities as in Goldhawk but in a more modern location. We understand that some people have restructured their lives around the location of the management school, but I should remind you of the following facts:
1. the school, in its terms and conditions, reserves the right to host its courses in any of its locations, and especially the locations it deems most suitable for the courses.
2. for students with visas, your priority is the course of study rather than work commitments. We understand that many students need to work to help support themselves in London, but it is inevitable that you must fit your working life around your studies, and not vice versa.
Compensation of lost hours
The school fully intends to provide “catch up” classes for the material missed over the coming weeks- this will be arranged by Nam, the incoming course director.
Your individual concerns
We do want to help in any way we can. Several of you have approached me with questions and concerns, and I encourage anyone who has either to approach me directly (rob@the-englishstudio.com /07876202394) or to ask any questions regarding course structure to Nam: namitakhokhlacheva@googlemail.com
